Sambousak pies


Crispy crust filled with minced meat and onions. Just divine

  • 4 cups Flour
  • 1/2 cup Sunflower oil
  • 1. 1/2 cups water you might need extra water, depending on your choice of flour
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt


  • 400 g Ground lean beef
  • 1 big onion
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp allspice
  • 1 mini handful pine nut
  • 4 tbsp Sunflower oil Add butter for extra flavor


  • Prepare the dough:
    In a bowl, pour flour and salt.
    Dissolve sugar in olive oil, incorporate oil and water to the flour.
    Knead using a stand mixer until the dough becomes elastic
  • Prepare the filling:
    Combine the onion and oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook until the onions are soft, add the beef and brown them, add the spices and season.
    Let the filling cool down
  • Shape the sambousak:
    Divide the dough into small balls. Form flat circles by flattening each ball. Top with 1 tsp of filling and fold over. Press the edges together by following the pattern of a half moon or mini banana. Close well the edges.
  • Deep frying: Heat a generous amount of vegetable oil in a pan, fry the Sambousak pies until golden. Serve
